Born in the heart of Kashmir, UPNORTH began as a grassroots response to two pressing issues: growing solid waste and limited economic opportunities for marginalized groups. What started as a small recycling effort has grown into a movement that combines environmental action with social empowerment.
We collect discarded materials like paper, plastic, and aluminum cans, and transform them into beautiful, handcrafted household items—lamps, baskets, organizers, and more. But we don’t just recycle materials—we uplift people. Women from low-income communities are trained in waste management and eco-friendly craftsmanship, and are then employed to create these sustainable products.
By merging circular economy principles with community development, UPNORTH is building a cleaner, greener, and more equitable future—one recycled item at a time.
At UPNORTH, our mission is to transform Kashmir into a model of environmental sustainability and inclusive community development. We aim to reduce waste through innovative upcycling while empowering marginalized groups—especially women and youth—with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive. By promoting eco-conscious living, dignified livelihoods, and grassroots solutions, we are building a circular economy that benefits both people and the planet.
UPNORTH is a grassroots social enterprise in Kashmir focused on environmental sustainability and social empowerment. We reduce waste by recycling materials like paper, plastic, and aluminum cans, transforming them into handcrafted décor and utility items such as lamps, wall art, baskets, and organizers—combining eco-friendliness with functionality.
